From August 7 to 9, 2026, the 14th Strait Youth Hui — Strait Youth Hanfu Culture Exchange took place in Fuzhou under the theme “Huafu Lighting the Strait, Youth Riding the Tide Together”. Organized by the Fuzhou Municipal Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang and the Publicity Department of the Cangshan District Committee, with the Fujian Hanfu Culture Promotion Association and the China Cross-Strait Fashion Artists Association as co-organizers, the event brought together nearly one hundred young designers, historians and Hanfu enthusiasts from both sides of the strait, using Hanfu as the bond to deepen cultural exchange among cross-strait youth.
Joint Shows and a Three-Zone Design Exhibition
At the opening ceremony, guests from both sides delivered speeches on the shared cultural roots of Fujian and Taiwan, discussing the significance of youth carrying on traditional culture and deepening cross-strait grassroots exchange. The launch unfolded with the performance “Dragon Shines Over Nine Regions” (龙耀九州), followed by a four-seasons joint Hanfu show by designers from both sides and a lineup of song-and-dance programs, presenting youth-led heritage in a stylish, contemporary stage language. The China Flower Goddess Youth Showcase ran alongside a Hanfu creative exhibition organized into three zones — the origins of Han-style dress, Fujian-Taiwan characteristics, and youth creativity — offering emerging designers from both sides a professional stage to display their work and trade ideas.
Laneway Photo Shoots and a Fuchuan River Parade
The program sent cross-strait youth into Fuzhou’s historic districts for Hanfu photo shoots at Sanfang Qixiang (三坊七巷) and Yantai Mountain (烟台山), and conferred the title of “Cross-Strait Youth Culture and Tourism Promoter” on several young people from Taiwan on the spot. A huafu parade on a Fuchuan (福船) boat along the inland river ran in parallel, with youth using cameras and social networks as their brushes, spreading the appeal of Min capital culture and Chinese Hanfu aesthetics through short videos and platforms at home and abroad.
Ji Xiang (吉祥), secretary-general of the China Cross-Strait Fashion Artists Association, said the garment lineage of Fujian and Taiwan has always shared a single origin, and that this offline gathering let young people from both sides meet face to face and come to know each other deeply, helping youth from Taiwan gain a full, living picture of traditional Chinese culture. Zheng Wei (郑炜), honorary president of the Fujian Hanfu Culture Promotion Association, said the association has long worked on grassroots cross-strait cultural exchange, that this event put youth at its center while balancing heritage preservation with Guochao innovation, and that the association will keep building a long-term platform for cross-strait traditional-culture exchange — passing on the cultural lineage through clothing and gathering strength through youth.
The event stood out in three ways: it placed youth at the center with cultural inheritance as the bond, strengthening the consensus of “one clothing lineage, one family across the strait” and closing the psychological distance between young people; it balanced preserving the orthodox with innovation, pushing Hanfu culture toward creative transformation; and it deeply integrated Hanfu with the cultural tourism of the Min capital, using youth-led social media to forge a calling card for youth exchange between Fuzhou and Taiwan. One set of huafu links the strait; young hearts pass on the lineage together — this cross-strait youth gathering injected youthful energy into carrying forward fine traditional Chinese culture and deepening integrated cross-strait development.
