The “Qipao Season · Wuai Garment City Qipao Grand Garden Shopping Month” officially launched at Shenyang’s Wuai Garment City on July 21, running through August 31. Organized under the coordination of the Shenyang Municipal Propaganda Department, the event mobilizes 6,000 merchants across the market, with over 100 carefully selected qipao and Neo-Chinese style stores offering summer promotions.
Wuai Garment City — known as Shenyang Wuai Market — serves as northeast China’s largest garment wholesale and retail hub. The initiative fuses traditional commerce with cultural tourism, creating a shopping experience that blends qipao heritage with everyday consumer activity. Participating stores offer direct discounts, spending-based reductions, and exclusive item promotions, with organizers guaranteeing all deals are genuine.
Five major benefit categories anchor the event. Universal welfare: all visitors receive a free ice cream to beat the summer heat. Tourism-linked perks: customers purchasing qipao, graduating high school seniors, college students, and tourists holding July–August tickets for the Shenyang Imperial Palace or Zhang Xueliang Former Residence Museum can redeem custom “Qipao Grand Garden” themed totes and round fans. Cultural promotion: Wuai Garment City distributes Shenyang travel guide brochures at major scenic spots and commercial districts citywide. The event also partners with the Shengjing Qipao Museum to present a dedicated qipao history exhibition area, extending the cultural consumption chain.
Wuai’s newly built “Qipao Grand Garden” exhibition zone opened alongside the promotion. It traces the full arc of qipao development — historical evolution, intangible cultural heritage (ICH) craftsmanship, and the four major qipao style schools — offering visitors an immersive photo-ready experience blending Chinese-style garment aesthetics and heritage depth.
On the media front, Shenyang’s municipal propaganda department coordinates coverage across mainstream provincial and city-level outlets, short-video platforms, and livestream features. Wuai Garment City pushes event updates through its own WeChat account, Douyin, and video channels, while local lifestyle influencers and fashion bloggers are invited for in-store visits. Offline elements include scenic-spot promotions, in-mall decorations, and shop signage — plus qipao-themed banners, display stands, and LED video campaigns both inside and outside the building.
Shenyang has branded itself the “Qipao Capital” since hosting its first Qipao Cultural Season in 2016 — 2026 marks the tenth consecutive edition. The title traces back to 1636, when Hong Taiji established the Qing dynasty in Shengjing (Shenyang) and codified the qipao as the official Banner attire. Wuai’s shopping month represents a key component of this year’s season, following events in Shenbei New District and the “Qipao Wine Fragrance” activities at the Laolongkou Cultural Tourism Zone. The series moves qipao culture beyond museums and runway shows into everyday urban consumption.
