On July 11, 2026, the Luxian Ancient City Ruins Park in Tongzhou District, Beijing, will host a traditional garment and ritual performance titled “Grand Canal Fashion Showplace — Midsummer Elegant Gathering.” Co-organized by the Tongzhou District Party Committee Publicity Department and Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, the event opens at 10:00 AM at the park’s Zhengtong Renhe scenic point.
Luxian Ancient City is Beijing’s earliest known Han dynasty settlement, with archaeological excavations by the sub-center pushing Tongzhou’s urban history back over 2,000 years. The event leverages this deep Han-era heritage to create an immersive cultural experience rooted in authentic historical context.
Restored Han Dynasty Rituals and Garment Designs
The performance features garment designs referencing classical texts and excavated artifacts, with silhouettes faithful to Han dynasty forms. The show depicts the daily lives of common people, scholars, and local gentry in the ancient city of Lu, presenting a complete restoration of the community drinking ceremony and community archery ritual — two cornerstone social institutions of Han-era local governance.
Accompanied by traditional ancient music, the ritual performance aims to reproduce the ceremonial atmosphere of the Han dynasty. Unlike staged costume shows that prioritize visual spectacle, this event emphasizes historical accuracy in both garment construction and ritual procedure, offering visitors a research-grounded window into Han-era social customs.
Three Classical Arts Interactive Zone
Beyond the ritual performance, the event sets up three interactive experience areas for incense ceremony, tea ceremony, and flower arrangement. These three classical arts — known collectively as the “three elegant pursuits” in Chinese literati tradition — allow visitors to engage with the refined daily practices documented in ancient texts.
The immersive format uses the park’s native landscape as a stage, with no physical barrier between performers and audience. Visitors can observe the ritual procedures up close, experiencing the Han dynasty aesthetic atmosphere within the ancient city walls.
Event Schedule and Registration
The 30-minute program follows a structured timeline: opening music at 10:00, welcome ceremony at 10:10, community drinking and archery rituals from 10:25 to 11:00, elegant gathering with tea and incense at 11:00, and closing ceremony at 11:20. The event is limited to 60 participants, with advance registration required.
The Luxian Ancient City Ruins Park, located in Tongzhou District, is accessible via Beijing Subway Line 6. The park preserves the archaeological remains of a Han dynasty county seat and serves as a cultural heritage education site for the Beijing sub-center.
