Yangzhou’s Slender West Lake scenic area will launch its 2026 Guofeng Culture and Art Season from July 10 through late August, transforming the historic garden into a nighttime spectacle of traditional Chinese aesthetics. Under the theme “Lotus Breeze and Poetic Dreams in Yangzhou,” the season features ten major activities — including hanfu parades, drone light shows, molten iron firework displays, and intangible cultural heritage exhibitions.
Hanfu Parade Under the Moon
The headline attraction for hanfu enthusiasts is the “Splendid Attire Reflected in Moonlight” national trend parade, running every Friday and Saturday from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM between July 10 and August 30. Participants in traditional Chinese dress will process through the garden’s iconic willow-lined pathways and arched bridges, set against the backdrop of illuminated classical pavilions reflected in the lake.
The parade is complemented by the “Ancient Style Adventure: Immersed in the Lake” activity, a daytime program running daily from July 1 through August 31 that invites visitors to role-play within the garden’s classical landscape.
Ten Activities: A Complete Summer Night Experience
The season’s programming spans a wide range of sensory experiences. “Lotus Wind Painting: Fragrance with Every Step” offers daytime lotus appreciation throughout the entire period. The “Children’s Garden Party” runs on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:15, 7:45, and 8:15 PM. “Starry River: Sky Canopy Phantoms” presents a drone light show every Friday and Saturday at 8:45 PM, painting the night sky above the lake.
The “Intangible Heritage Corridor: Elegance Gallery” operates nightly from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM, showcasing traditional crafts. “Collecting Stamps, Seeking Dreams: Lucky Pouches” adds a treasure-hunt element for visitors. “Coffee, Sweet Soup, and Cultural Creative Gifts” provides refreshment options. And “Poetry Encounter by the Lakeside: Meeting Under the Moon,” a poetry-themed program, will run on Friday and Saturday evenings from August 7 to 29.
Iron Fireworks and Dragon Night Tours
Perhaps the most visually dramatic offering is “Flowing Light and Elegance: Fiery Trees and Silver Flowers,” running from July 1 through August 31. The program combines a national trend music performance (7:30-8:30 PM), dragon-themed night boat tours (7:30 PM and 8:30 PM), and the spectacular datiehua — molten iron firework displays — at 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Datiehua, a traditional folk performance in which molten iron is thrown against a wall to create cascading sparks, has become one of China’s most popular nighttime cultural attractions in recent years.
Yangzhou’s Summer Night Economy Push
The Slender West Lake season is part of a broader “Summer in Yangzhou” initiative aimed at boosting the city’s nighttime cultural tourism. By packaging hanfu culture, traditional performances, and digital light art into a single ticketed experience, the scenic area is betting on immersive heritage tourism as a driver of summer visitation — and giving hanfu enthusiasts one more reason to pack their robes for a trip to Jiangsu.
