Tang Emperor Valley State Guest Winery in Penglai, Shandong province, is inviting visitors to spend July in hanfu. The scenic winery has opened a month-long “July National Style Hanfu Garden” event that runs from July 1 to July 31, 2026.
Located at 1 Guobin Road, the winery is known as the world’s first Chinese Tang-style wine estate. Founded in 2006, the compound covers more than 2,000 mu of wine grapes plus an additional 200 mu of table grapes. Its buildings use Tang dynasty design cues such as upturned eaves, painted beams, pavilions, corridors, and courtyards. In 2014, the site was rated a national AAA-level tourist attraction.
The estate’s name traces back to a local legend about Emperor Taizong of Tang, who is said to have passed through the valley during a campaign. Whether or not the story is historical, it gives the winery a narrative hook that pairs naturally with Tang-style costume photography.
The July program turns that architecture into a backdrop for hanfu photography and immersive garden walks. Admission is priced at 25 yuan per person, down from the regular 60 yuan. Each ticket holder can borrow a basic hanfu set free of charge for the day, making it easy for visitors who do not already own traditional clothing to take part.
Guests can pose along the winery’s castle corridor, vineyard paths, and underground cellar, all of which are opened for photography during the event. The estate has also scheduled wine tasting sessions and free guided explanations of traditional winemaking, so the visit combines costume culture with local wine heritage.
Organizers describe the month as a good fit for summer family trips and groups of friends who want a relaxed cultural outing. With coastal Penglai’s mild summer weather and the estate’s landscaped grounds, the event is positioned as a low-pressure way to experience both hanfu and wine culture in one stop.
The winery has also received recognition for both its architecture and its wines. It was named one of the top ten wine estates in Shandong and has won medals at international wine competitions. Those credentials help explain why the hanfu event is being promoted as a cultured summer destination rather than a simple costume rental.
