Hanfu Guangdong, the regional hanfu association that has organized hanfu outings around the Huazhao Festival, the Southern Book Festival, and the Hanfu Festival for years, has opened registration for the 2026 Bay Area Huazhao Festival hanfu outing. The destination is Guangzhou Haizhu National Wetland Park, and the outing date is March 15, 2026.
Hanfu Outing, Not a Stage Show
Hanfu Guangdong’s stated motivation for organizing the outing is to push back against a trend the group sees as a problem: an increasing share of hanfu events have become pure performance showcases, with strict dress-code expectations and high cost-of-entry that the group says discourages newcomers. The outing is positioned as the opposite — a low-barrier, neighborhood-level event that invites people who have never worn hanfu to come along with friends and family, and to experience the Huazhao Festival as a public, walkable cultural activity rather than a ticketed show.
The outing is also designed to extend the group’s three-year tradition of running hanfu outings during the Huazhao Festival, the Southern Book Festival, and the Hanfu Festival, and to give participants a chance to invite friends and family who do not yet own hanfu to come along.
What the Hanfu Outing Is For
The published goals of the outing are: to help nearby hanfu enthusiasts meet each other and form local teams; to provide experienced participants to answer questions from newcomers and reduce the social anxiety that the group says often blocks first-time participation; to present hanfu as an everyday, accessible practice rather than a high-production showcase; to explicitly invite friends and family members who do not yet own hanfu to attend alongside participants; and to spend the Huazhao Festival together in its traditional form, as a spring outing for viewing blossoms.
The outing date is March 15, 2026. There is no single citywide meeting point: each local team sets its own gathering point at a nearby metro station, mall, or park, and each team leader sets the route and timing based on local conditions. The shared destination for all teams is Guangzhou Haizhu National Wetland Park. Team leaders handle route planning, gathering, and on-the-day coordination.
Hanfu Guangdong is recruiting team leaders. The published requirements are: an interest in hanfu culture and a willingness to join the hanfu promotion effort; the patience to handle questions and the organizational capacity to manage sign-up, photo coordination, and route communication; and a willingness to follow the central organizing team’s coordination and management. Team leader tasks include route planning, recruiting and organizing local participants, answering newcomer questions, and recruiting a volunteer photographer for group photos and short videos.
Team leader benefits include being listed on the official hanfu outing long-poster as either team leader or co-leader (co-leaders are appointed for teams larger than 20 people), a registration-fee refund for team leaders of teams over 20 and for co-leaders of teams over 50, and entry to Hanfu Guangdong’s senior team leader group chat, which provides advance notice of internal event planning and priority access to event-organizing opportunities.
Clothing Code
Hanfu Guangdong’s stated clothing policy is deliberately permissive. The outing welcomes newcomers wearing hanfu for the first time and explicitly invites participants who do not yet own hanfu to attend. The policy excludes Qing-dynasty-style clothing, theatrical costume, and other garments that are easily confused with hanfu, but otherwise does not restrict specific hanfu forms or hanfu-inspired modern clothing. For hanfu outings organized by other groups, the published guidance is to follow that group’s specific clothing policy.
Photographer Call and Flower Goddess Vote
Hanfu Guangdong is also recruiting parade-row photographers and outing photographers; selected images are credited and published on the Hanfu Guangdong WeChat video channel, Douyin, and Xiaohongshu. The 2026 Bay Area Huazhao Festival Flower Goddess Contest voting closed on March 11, 2026 at 20:00.
