2026 Beijing International Food Festival Opens

The 2026 Beijing International Food Festival officially opened on June 10 at the Beijing Exhibition Center plaza, launching a five-month culinary celebration that runs through October 2026. The event, themed “In Beijing, Taste Global Flavors,” brings together international restaurant brands, regional specialties from over 30 provinces and cities, time-honored Beijing brands, and trendy new food concepts in one expansive open-air venue.

Shandong Province: The Exclusive Guest Province

Shandong Province is the sole guest province at this year’s festival, presenting what organizers describe as an immersive “Qilu Experience” — a culinary and cultural showcase combining food, tourism, intangible cultural heritage demonstrations, and live cultural performances. Shandong’s participation reflects the province’s rich culinary traditions, which include imperial cuisine influences from the Confucius hometown of Qufu, fresh seafood from the Yellow Sea coast, and world-famous noodles and flatbread specialties.

Festival-goers can sample signature Shandong dishes including Dezhou braised chicken, Qingdao seafood, Weifang burnt wonton, and traditional Cong Zhai (cart-wheel) noodles, alongside interactive demonstrations of intangible cultural heritage food-making techniques.

A Five-Month “Food +” Consumer Experience

Unlike previous years’ food festivals, the 2026 Beijing International Food Festival is structured as a sustained citywide initiative rather than a single-day event. The extended five-month duration aims to drive continuous foot traffic and media attention, transforming the Beijing Exhibition Center area into a long-term culinary destination.

The event creates a one-stop “food, travel, shopping, entertainment” consumer experience, integrating food sampling with cultural tourism, artisan markets, and live cooking performances. This model reflects a broader national trend of using large-scale food events to stimulate local consumption and promote regional cultural branding.

Legendary Beijing Brands Join the Celebration

A star-studded roster of Beijing’s most storied restaurant brands is participating in the festival, bringing centuries of culinary heritage to the event:

  • Ma Kai Restaurant (马凯餐厅)
  • Huguosi Snacks (护国寺小吃)
  • Fangshan Imperial Cuisine Restaurant (仿膳)
  • Quanjude Roast Duck (全聚德)
  • Sichuan Restaurant (四川饭店)
  • Xinchuan Noodles (新川面馆)
  • Hubi Lou (鸿宾楼)
  • Emei Restaurant (峨嵋酒家)
  • Fuhuazhai (富华斋)
  • Liubiju (六必居)

These time-honored brands represent Beijing’s culinary soul — from Imperial cuisine to beloved hutong snacks — and their collective presence gives the festival a deep cultural dimension alongside its commercial programming.

The 2026 Beijing International Food Festival runs from June to October at the Beijing Exhibition Center. Admission is free. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early on weekends, as popular food stalls regularly draw long queues.
