Full disclosure: I went to the Youth Innovation Beijing Trend-Shopping Fair (潮购会) for the Hanfu parade and stayed for the games. The fair opened on August 28 on the Celebration Square at Beijing’s Olympic Park, the stretch between the Bird’s Nest and the Water Cube, and it runs through August 30, free to enter, from 15:00 to 21:00 each day. Organized jointly by the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, it packs about 100 booths into ten themed zones that mix tech products, cultural experiences, books and charity shopping.
Daily Hanfu Walks and Four NPCs to Find
The parade is the draw. Every day from 16:00 to 17:00, a Hanfu procession makes a full loop of the square, and honestly, it works — people in Ming-style robes walking past the Bird’s Nest is a sight you don’t forget. Around the site, four actors in ancient-style costumes wander the crowd as NPCs. Find one, and you can play a quick free game; win, and you get a “silver-note” voucher (银票), the fair’s own play money.
Here is how the currency works. You pick up a stamp card at a checkpoint or at the Fair Money House, collect six stamps by doing the checkpoints and games, and trade the card in for a limited-edition souvenir. The games rotate on a schedule: pitch-pot rites, goose ring toss, a blindfolded gong strike and a 60-second rhythm challenge, plus a constant basketball-shooting spot. The note system is simple enough that a first-timer gets it in a minute, which is probably the point — I watched a whole family split up to chase stamps at different booths.
The zones cover youth-brand alliance stores, an Asian-Olympic-Business-Circle new-consumption area, a heritage-craft and time-honored-brand corner, creative products, books, support-region displays, a rural-revival theme area, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei interactive products, new-energy vehicles and a trade-in section for consumer goods. Two booths stood out. The Olympic-themed post office was selling DIY postcards — you design your own and it is stamped on the spot. And the book zone had nearly 2,000 titles at 20 to 50 percent off, from essays and poetry to campus fiction and healing comics. For food, the Beijing-flavor station does the local classics, and there are instant discounts for scanning to pay (5 yuan off 30, 15 yuan off 80), backed by Postal Savings Bank of China.
The Fourth Edition of a Growing Fair
This is the fourth edition since the fair launched in 2023, and it runs alongside the 2026 Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Youth Think Tank, where youth commando teams from the three regions present projects on tech innovation and the youth economy, with six young founders sharing their takes on new business models. So the fair is half marketplace, half networking event — the stalls are the fun half, the think tank is the serious half, and both happen in the same square.
Getting there is easy: Metro Line 8 stops at Olympic Park or Olympic Sports Center stations, and buses 82 and 645 serve National Stadium East. If you go, aim for the 16:00 parade and bring a friend to split the stamp-collecting. Admission is free; the fair ends August 30.
