So. I got inspired by the post about ronghua by camille and decided to try it. But because I was too eager to make it, I used materials that were too thick. So the flower also turned out to be too thick. Well, I didn’t really checked what materials exactly did I need so it is how it is. Now I know my mistakes. Below you can see photos taken during the process of making and the final result.

What materials do you use?
秋 · 2022-09-20 22:24:26
OMG! They are so cute already! I will write a detailed article about them soon. It will talk about the history but also some basic steps. Maybe it will help. But if you are making a specific flower, it’s always best to watch a tutorial about it as you practice your skills.

Also depend if you want the petals to be flatter ot fluffier. If you want flat petals, you can even use a flat hair curler to flattened them. if you want to have the petals curved, then you‘ll need to buy a specific heater thing for those with differnt sized ball handls to shape the curve on the petals. you can even use a hair spray to secure the shape after you finished shaping them. But practice makes perfect!

I think these also look very good. They are thicker but they seem real. And beautiful.😁

Good hustle! They do look a bit chunky, but really cute, and have a lot of personnality! ^^
ahh honestly you did incredible with what supplies you have! If you want directions to ronghua materials I can totally point you there, they’re super fun to make haha
I’m sorry, can you rephrase the middle part? I’m not sure if I understood it correctly.

Paper Mamian
I decided to make tiny Mamianqun from paper to see how different amount of pleats will look like.
The numbers on skirts show how many pairs of pleats is on one piece of material. 4-7 was a recommended amount and 2-3… well. I was curious so I made them too.
Below, you can also see schemats of patterns and comparision of three different lengths.

Ling · 2022-10-06 20:32:48
The width of the pleats is also a key factor; all use the same width of pleats, means a larger hemline.

On the note of pleat widths, the qun with 2 pleats, the folds are too deep 😂 I imagine a 2-pleat would be a more close to figure type of skirt

That looks so cool! when i tried sewing clothes myself, i spent so much time on cutting and sewing together but i had to redo as i sewed the wrong sides XD
it’s okay, but may I know if you are a female/male? (This question is for when I draw the eyes, there are differences for female and male, but if it’s not convenient for you to say, that’s okay)
I used patterns from this website. It was my first time sewing something bigger. I didn’t really find any more detailed instructions as to how to sew everything together, so I was doing it somewhat blindly.
The most trouble caused me the belt part. I had no idea how to sew it. I tried adding belt loops and straps, but the results weren’t satisfying. In the end, I put in elastic rubber band. It helped a lot, but because I wasn’t planning on adding it on the beginning, it is how it is.

Thanks for sharing! I think we are supposed to add ties that go arround the waist, like on skirts… but since this part is not visible, elastics are just so much more practical ^^

Making Zhongyi
I used patterns from this website. This time, I managed to find very helpful thing called Hanfu for Dummies so I knew a bit more about how to sew everything together.
One of the things I learned from this, is that ironing things is really helpful. I’m still not sure about some things concernig collar and ties, but the overall outcome is satisfying.

Awesome! Ironing the fabric before sewing is very important. I found sewing the collar quite complex. Did you find the sewing of the front lapel challenging?
A bit. It surely was the most challenging part. On the beginning, I didn’t know how to start, so it took me a while to figure this out. But the guide I found included sewing collar so at least I knew more or less about how it should be done. Now that I did it, there are some things I would probably do slightly different but the outcome is still good.

Some time ago, I saw a classmate of mine wearing something akin to a jacket from tulle. And I thought: hey! It looks good! And I have that material at home! Why don’t I try making something from this?
And that’s how I decided to make Beizi. Problem is, it turned out I don’t have enough fabric to do this. So I figured out that I can just use other materials I have instead.
After that, I started thinking: would it even look good with anything?
And thats how I decided to do a whole set.

Thanksgiving Hanfu Set
Took me a while to find time to do that. But here it is! The name of the set is Summer Rainbow. I also get Zhogyi and Zhongku. It’s so soft! Anyway. My mom convinced me to wear this for a Christmas Dinner. She said that if not then then when? Well. She’s right.
To sum it all up, thank you! I like it a lot!

Looks beautiful! Hope you got lots of compliments from your family at dinner.
This year, I want to make more hanfu and be better at it. Another thing is the led stick. In summer, I want to join a fire theater or however it’s called.
Below, you can see my glowing led stick and something I’m currently working on. Also, we tried to take some pictures of me in hanfu, spinning said stick but unfortunately, it isn’t very visible. Oh well. Happy new year!
that’s unexpected! Had you not pointed it out I didn’t even notice ^^ I still think they are supposed to be fruits…they are attached to branches !^^

Finally! Everything I need to do this came! I hope I didn’t forget anything. I know that I still need to find something to comb it. Any suggestions? Right now the only other thing to figure out is where to put the whole thing… whish me good luck! I’ll share the progress when I’ll get there.

I’ve heard that people use wire cat brushes to comb out yarn into fibers, so you could try that!
I didn’t use a wire cat brush but I did find the right one in the shop with things for animals so thank you!

Hanfu set making – Beizi(?)
First part of the set is done!
Well. It was supposed to be beizi but I guess it’s too short for that. I’m happy with how it turned out. There still are small things I need to correct but these are easy to miss from afar. I was thinking… maybe I should make an embrodery on the sleeves too? We’ll see when the whole thing is done. For now, I’m leaving this alone.

Nice! How original! I think embroidery is what gives the immediate chineseness yo a hanfu. By depending on the occasion you want to wear it, it might be too much. Maybe just a stylish trimming…

Ronghua imitation of Tian-Tsui
Firs try with silk! Actually, I made it around a week or two after I’ve got materials for this so forvige my lateness.
For the first try, I decided to use blue silk, thus decided to create something similar to Tian-tsui. As a result, I’ve got a small hairpin and that thing for a necklace or a bracelet.
Unfortunately, I don’t have photos of the work in progress to share. I think that the most difficult thing for me to do was twisting wires and fattening petals. What I mean is that it was difficult to make it look good. But as the time passed by it got better.

Trying Jiao Jing weave
Suprise! Inspired by the article “Explore Ancient Chinese Fabrics: A Guide to Identifying and Appreciating Traditional Textiles” by Anne, I decided to try the Jiao Jing weave.
I like how it turned out. However I shouldn’t have made warp so tight. Usually, that’s how it’s supposed to be, but this time it’s the warp I’m twisting while weft stays straight, which usually isn’t the case. Because of that, the edge is going towards the middle and it isn’t supposed to happen. Next time I’d try leaving it more loose.

You are great! 👍👍I even had trouble understanding how the fabic structures were composed in the article.😱😂
It’s my first loom. I’ve got it 5 years ago during my summer trip. It’s good but the looms made from the wooden frame with nails are good too. They can be bigger with warp being more dense. You can make really big things with these. This one is for small projects.
woah! (my brain stopped braining cuz i once tried and my brain gave up at teh beginning of a tutorial XD)

I had some trouble with finding a suitable place to record how to do it so it took me longer than I tought it would to record everything. But now, it’s done!
Because I know it will take me a while to edit everything, I’m posting results of both tries after taking them off the loom now.
