I think the best one is silk, but it may be too expensive. That’s why most hanfus are now polyester or cotton.

Chiffon is ideal for skirts as it holds pleats very well; it’s usually either double layered or sewn with an inner solid layer to get rid of the transparent issues. Use chiffon for outer layers too. Cotton and linen or a mix of both are also a good choice for tops and tend to be very comfortable, just keep in mind that they wrinkle easily. I’ve found that tencel and similar rayon or silk substitute fabrics can also get you the same effect at a lower price.

If you can see the fabrics in person, just make sure that the fabric is soft enough to drape well and you should be good to go.
