Strictly speaking, it is not considered a type of hanfu, but more similar to the xianxia style of clothing. Although it is very similar to hanfu.

About Tang Dynasty Hanfu
These short-sleeved jackets are all from the Tang dynasty? What is the difference between them, I am just confused, they are very similar but not exactly the same.

Shan 衫?

Ling · 2021-11-29 11:14:54
The one worn inside is called Shan/Ao. In simple terms, the single layer is called Shan and the thick one is called Ao.
Beizi 背子 is worn on the outer layer, and the style of Beizi in the early and mid-Tang dynasty is slightly different, mainly in the collar and sleeves.
The styles in the picture 1, 2, 3 and 4 are all more like the Beizi of the flourishing Tang Dynasty, and the fifth picture tends to be the Beizi of the early Tang Dynasty.

In the Tang Dynasty, it was called Beizi 背子, and later developed into Beizi 褙子 in the Song Dynasty.😂

Hanfu Making
I’m trying to make a hanfu myself from a drawing, but I’m finding it hard to get the dimensions the same intact, how should I do it?

Ling · 2021-12-13 08:16:17
I drew the prototype on kraft paper first and then applied it to the cloth.

Maybe should try it once with a cheap fabric first? I do feel that the sewing part is difficult for me, and cutting the fabric against the design requires observation.

A modern hanfu style?
Can this be considered one of the hanfu?

I don’t know. It looks more like european clothing from 19th century.
beulah · 2022-04-01 05:00:00
It is indeed hard to tell, probably in the style of the Song dynasty.

It seems that only individual elements of hanfu were applied.

Which dynasty is this hanfu?
I guessed it was a jiaoling ruqun, but its intricate pattern made it impossible for me to clearly determine.

Kaldea · 2022-04-13 12:16:16
The shape of the sleeves and the edges of the cuffs are very similar to the ruqun of the Wei and Jin dynasties.

As well as the use of Bixi, it was not common in subsequent dynasties.

That would be a zhiju pao/直裾袍/straight-hem robe! Popular during the Han and Qin dynasties especially~

Heziqun OR ruqun?
I often get confused between the two styles

History comments
Merriel · 2023-02-02 11:58:38
From My understanding, Hezi is that embroidered part that covers the ties over the bust, in qixiong ruqun. So I guess it is technically a ruqun, tied over the bust, decorated with a hezi. Hope that helped.

Stephanie · 2023-02-02 22:38:21
I agree with Merriel. Like qixiong shanqun, and then added hezi as a decoration.
Carottie · 2023-02-03 05:42:48
I understood that Heziqun covers your breast and then goes down as a skirt with a ribbon tied under your breasts. But Qixiong Ruqun is just a skirt tied above your breasts as in the picture.

Tiffa · 2023-02-04 03:32:07 · reply Merriel(#10793)
thanks!! So the hezi is a separate part of the dress.

The top is a cross-collar Ru from the Wei-Jin period, but I’m not so sure for the skirt, like the song dynasty Xuan Qun.
