Winter Hanfu
I have had a question on my mind for a while now….
When we buy Hanfu, they are usually made out of light materials ( i forgot what the name is precisely)… but these fabric are not very warm….
Tradditionnally and in the present times, with what and how can we make hanfu for winter condditions ( i live i canada, and our coldest months, we can go down between -15 to -35C).
Thank you

Most of the modern hanfu styles are relatively light and thin. However, there are some Ming Dynasty hanfu styles, such as aoqun, robe, pifeng, etc., which are made of cotton and can be worn in winter.

I’m not quite sure how people in ancient times used multiple layers of hanfu to keep out the cold, but nowadays, we can wear warm clothing on the inner layer and then put on the hanfu.

I believed that those fabric were cotton and were either padded or lined, similarly to how we make winter coats. In addition, several layers had to be used.

Padded clothing and jackets filled with cotton or silk floss. Also many layers. Most people also used cotton, hemp which are thicker. Modern hanfu are usually chiffon, made of silk or polyester. You can also make thicker clothing if you use bigger yarns to weave.

Ironning a hanfu
Hello, how do you dewrinkle a hanfu… those in cotton or linen are not a problem…. but those made out of share transparent fabric… i have no clue how…
I have afraid of ironning them, because the fabric may melt! O.o or shrink…. so how to take the wrinkles out of them safely?
Thank you

Spray some water on it and start trying with the lowest temperature.

After cleaning, fixing the ends with clips, but this method depends specifically on your hanfu style.

use a handheld steamer

If it is really delicate fabric, the easiest is to hang it in the bathroom (away from the shower) and take a hot shower and let it steam the bathroom build up, then shake it a bit and let it dry.
