The scope of Qiyao Ruqun is so wide that many dynasties are involved. The earliest originated in the eastern Han Dynasty, the North and South Dynasties, the Tang Dynasty, and the Song Dynasty all had such styles.

In fact, the ruqun popular in different periods of history, the skirt waist height are not quite the same, ruqun originated in the Han Dynasty, especially after the Eastern Han Dynasty use is very common, the location of the skirt waist is generally in the high waist, flush with the waist position.
The specific need to look at the style of the top, is the Duijin(lapel), or is the Jiaoling(cross collar). If it is Qiyao Ruqun with Jiaoling, it was very popular before the Tang Dynasty. If it is Qiyao Ruqun with Duijin, i think it was very common in the Song Dynasty.

Ji Fu, Guan Fu, Sang Fu, Ji Fu, Bian Fu
Ji Fu 祭服: the name of the ritual costume
Guan Fu 冠服 is divided into men and women, and men have three types of dresses for court meetings, work and daily wear; women are divided into dresses and daily wear.
Sang Fu 丧服 is the name of funeral dress
Ji Fu 吉服is the name of festival clothing, such as Chinese New Year.
Bian Fu 便服 is what we now call everyday casual clothing, non-ceremonial system clothing.
