I don’t think it was qing dynasty. One of the ladies from the family, Yuan Chun, went to become a royal concubine, and she wasn’t manchu, so defnitely not Qing dynasty.

Yeah, you are right. I have just found that that it was written in the middle of 18th century but is set in Ming dynasty.
