I found that the collar of the Ming hanfu was turned down, very similar to a shirt.😂

How to judge the quality of a set of hanfu?
Do you have any criteria?

I am often concerned about whether the fabric is smooth, whether the detailing (extra threads, corner articulation) is perfect.😂

The hanfu is consistent with the pictures shown, as well as does not deform after cleaning.

For me I usually look at the quality of fabric (what’s the actual fiber itself, like cotton, silk, linen etc. polyester is what most of them are made of and usually cheaper but can still be beautiful) and also the seams. Lower quality hanfu often has thread ends unsnipped, so you can see the tails of the thread hanging out, though it’s easy to just remedy that by cutting them off yourself. You can also look at how the rolled tape, or gunbian, at the seams of the neck, that look kind of like ribbons attached to the collar—they’re typically more difficult to sew correctly, which is folding over, sewing one side, then folding the whole thing in half, then folding the seam allowance over AGAIN and sewing over THAT so the extra seam is hidden on the front side of the fabric. Embroidery and printed fabric is also a good way to check: it’s easy to tell if something’s machine embroidered, though it’s not always bad that it’s done by a machine. Printed fabric tends to be a bit less durable, but a lot of the most beautiful designs are printed. It also counts whether things wash out or the hanfu keeps its shape after you wash it—obviously make sure you wash it according to guidelines, but some originally vibrant fabrics fade, which sucks a lot for obvious reasons. Really high quality sets also often have more layers and better corner articulation. If you’re looking from just online, before you buy them, look for established brand names and absolutely pictures offered by reviews—the images on listings are often color edited and look weird or fake in person.

Since my mom is a Former Designer and I got her ability when it comes to buying clothes. I quite often check the type of fabric they have use and the texture of it. I’m picky when it comes to fabrics and the texture.

Since my mom is a Former Designer and I got her ability when it comes to buying clothes. It depends on the quality of the fabrics that you get, I quite often check the type of fabric they have use, the texture of it and the Embroidery Design (the details that are on the Hanfu). I’m picky when it comes to fabrics and the texture.
